Broadridge, NewRiver to deliver summary prospectus tool The Security and Exchange Commission’s rule change that requires mutual funds to provide investors with a summary prospectus has opened up at least one business opportunity. The Investor Communication Solutions division of Broadridge Financial Solutions Inc. of Lake Success, N.Y., will offer Andover, Mass.-based NewRiver Inc.’s Prospectus Express and Virtual Document Warehouse products for pre-sales and first-dollar deliveries in the brokerage market. The regulation takes effect Tuesday. Prospectus Express 3.0 is a Web-based data warehouse application used by brokerage firms, and Virtual Document Warehouse is a comprehensive database of print-ready, PDF prospectuses and supplemental documentation. Both products are updated daily from the SEC’s Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval system better known asEDGAR. With Prospectus Express, Broadridge lets clients view summary prospectuses online, and allows fund firms to provide direct links to supporting documentation from the prospectus. “Because of the SEC’s summary prospectus rule, firms can better meet the needs of their customers by delivering prospectuses in the form and length they desire,” Russ Planitzer, chairman and chief executive of NewRiver, said in a statement. “For the industry, that means even greater cost savings through e-delivery growth and by shifting to a digital, print-on-demand model.” Forrester of Cambridge, Mass., estimates that electronic delivery will save mutual fund organizations up to $300 million a year in printing and shipping costs.
