China's economy expanded at an 11.5% clip during the third quarter, according to that country's National Bureau of Statistics. Despite the strong growth figures, the Chinese economy slowed slightly from the second quarter as officials made an effort to curb inflation. The increase was short of the second-quarter 11.9% bump. Inflation eased in September, as consumer prices increased 6.2% compared to the year-ago period, down from an 11-month high of 6.5% in August. Despite the decline, China remains on pace to grow this year at the fastest clip since 1993, when the economy expanded 13.1%, bringing it closer to overtaking Germany as the world's third largest economy, according to published reports. Agricultural production increased 1.3%, while industrial production grew at an 18.5% pace, according to the Chinese bureau.
