Congressional hearings held last month addressed the contentious issue of taxes paid by managers of hedge funds and private equity funds. Several pending bills take aim at such funds: S 1624 would eliminate favorable tax treatment for firms that derive income from providing investment adviser and related asset management services; HR 2785 and HR 2834 take on similar tax treatment of such firms.
