Deborah McWhinney to helm foundation

The ex-president of Schwab Institutional has become CEO and president of the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation.

Deborah D. McWhinney has become chief executive and president of the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation. The former president of Schwab Institutional is heading up the Missoula, Mont., organization to help fund scholarships for underprivileged people in that state. “After what I went through in 2006, I wanted to do something meaningful and do something different,” Ms. McWhinney said. Ms. McWhinney, a Montana native, survived breast cancer in 2006 and left Schwab last year. She expects in the near future to assume a management position with the Missoula-based Washington Cos., a private company with interests in copper mining and railroads, she added. Ms. McWhinney will work from both San Francisco and Missoula.
