Do you know an adviser who inspires hope? Who impacts their community? Who's changing the world?
Financial advisers do amazing work for their clients, but they also do amazing work for their communities. Advisers are incredibly charitable — lending their unique skills and perspectives to important causes in communities across the country and around the world.
Inspiring Hope
John Hyland, Managing Director of Private Advisor Group in Morristown, NJ, began volunteering with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of New Jersey in 1993 in honor of an aunt who passed away from AML. In addition to providing leadership as a member of the organization's board of directors, John has raised over $1.2 million for the organization since 2000 to fund research and patient aid. Ironically, John was diagnosed with AML in 2010. His firm is currently leading an industry-wide effort to find John a bone marrow match with the goal of adding 3,000 people to the national bone marrow registry.
Impacting the Community
Bruce Fyfe, Executive Vice President of ProVise Management Group in Tampa, FL, has served on the board of the Homeless Emergency Project (HEP) since 1992, but his work took on special significance when his son, Brendan, an Iraq war veteran, lost his life in 2009 as a result of PTSD. Bruce and his wife helped HEP raise $3.4 million in honor of their son for a 32-unit housing complex for homeless Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, which opened in 2012.
Changing the World
Jessica Jones, a financial adviser with Edward Jones in the Woodlands, TX, was inspired by the work of an orphanage, Casa Para Niños Aleluya, during a 2005 visit to Guatemala with her church. In addition to annual visits to the orphanage, she and her husband have donated full college funding, nearly $1 million, to over 250 students in this community.
What do these advisers have in common? The Invest in Others Charitable Foundation has recognized all three through our Community Leadership Awards. By showcasing this philanthropic work, Invest in Others helps advisers and the non-profits they serve effect positive change in communities near and far.
These are just a few of the inspirational stories we've heard over the years, and we know we haven't heard them all. Share a story and you can make an impact. In addition to national recognition, finalists and winners will receive a generous donation from Invest in Others to their designated charities.
