More charitable donors going online to give, study finds

Online charitable giving provides only a small slice of revenue for charities, but that is changing, according to a survey of 400 non-profit organizations conducted by Convio Inc.

Online charitable giving provides only a small slice of revenue for charities, but that is changing, according to a survey of 400 non-profit organizations conducted by Convio Inc. In the first quarter of 2009, revenue from online donors increased 8%: They took in $31,405, compared with $29,139 in the first quarter of 2008. Traffic to charitable websites also grew in the quarter to a median of 32,068 visits, up from 27,631 visits in the first quarter of 2008, representing a 16% increase. The Austin, Texas-based firm provides software and technology solutions for relationship management to more than 1,200 non-profit organizations.
