Fireman’s Fund, a member of Allianz Group, has launched the first green homeowners’ insurance policy upgrade.
Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co., a Novato, Calif. member of Allianz Group, yesterday launched the first green homeowners’ insurance policy upgrade.
The upgrade covers Prestige Premier policyholders who were affected by the recent Southern California wildfires.
Homes that were destroyed or damaged can be rebuilt following green environmental safety and efficiency standards.
Green building features, which are also included in the upgrade, will cover Energy Star-rated appliances, insulation, and heating and cooling systems.
Since certain shrubs and trees feed fires, Fireman’s Fund will cover up to $10,000 per plant and $50,000 total for replacing burned vegetation with new plants that cut the risk of spreading a wildfire.
The upgraded policy will also provide up to $25,000 in coverage for pets injured in a fire.
Starting next year, the insurance company will also provide green upgrades and other enhancements to homeowners in other selected states.
“Family safety and health is of utmost importance, especially after the considerable loss Southern Californians have experienced,” said Robert Courtemanche, president of personal insurance at Fireman’s Fund, in a statement.
“This is an innovative solution, and we’re pleased to offer it first to Southern California wildfire victims.”
